My 60 Falcon is equipped with a 2-speed Ford-o-matic automatic transmission. Lately, the engine will start, but it stalls immediately. I have been through nearly everything in the ignition and fuel systems, certainly the ignition switch. I know the neutral safety switch is well worn; most of the time I have to move the shift lever on the column slightly to get to the "sweet spot" for the engine to start. Could a badly worn neutral safety switch be causing this problem? I have a new one on order; it obviously is past due time for me to replace it anyway. If this part does not restore my car to proper running condition, however, what's next? Thanks, guys.

If it cranks & starts its not the neutral switch.
Turn the ignition ON, do not start
Measure the voltage at the coil. It should be around 7Volts
If its not then either the resistor wire is open circuit, or the ignition switch is faulty
If you get oil/gen lights on the dash with the key in the ON position, its a fair bet on the resistor wire
To prove a point, run a temporary wire from the coil to the battery positive

The switch would only effect the ability to crank. It should have noting to do with it staying running.
To eliminate the ignition switch and stuff from the puzzle for a test run a wire direct from battery + to + of the coil. You will have to disconnect this wire to get it to shut off. Also be careful not to get the wire tangled in the fan or shorted to anything else.
