It was the radiator...the supposedly "Brand New" radiator that looked new, but must have been clogged.
This morning I flushed the block cooling system, installed a new carb spacer, and a new NPD 3+ radiator. During the test drive the temp gauge never went over half way.....
So, I'm mad at the guy's dishonesty in that trade, but not at the efforts/delay. I was kinda forced to learn how r&r a distributor, mess with timing, and the importance of timing/carb adjustment/vacuum in regards to cooling issues.
I guess I never should have assumed anything about that radiator....
