O Ringing the engine

Ok so I have a Falcon Six book coming ordered today!!!! I also have a few questions.
I am a Tugboat captain and out on the boat right now but when I get off the boat I will be getting the engine out of my son and I Mustang along with the Trans..
The outside of the engine looks bonestock but I am going to tear it down and rebuild. Now I plan on souping it up a little in babysteps but would like to do the machine work once.

I have read on here somewhere about Oringing the deck but the only place I have found that Orings said they do the head and are not set up to do the block so is it worth it to do this.

Guess this will be covered in the book does the book cover pros and cons of headers and add ons too?

i don't think the book mentions o ringing.imo you would need to run aviation gas if you had that much compression.it does talk about headers and modifying the stock manifolds.

I just got my block O-ringed. I did it because I will be running a turbo and want to run about 12-16lbs of boost. I had heard that some of the people like Does 10's were having problems keeping the head gaskets from blowing since no one makes a good high performance head gasket.

Since I did not want to do this job twice I opted for the Classic Inline's copper head gasket and the required O-ringing. My machinist had the tool to cut the block and said it was easy, he has done it many many times...but never on a inline six.

I did have to order the wire, .041". He called me yesterday to say its done.

If your not going to turbo then you will probably be OK with just a good quality head gasket. IMHO head studs are a cheap reliability upgrade and dont cost all that much and they give better clamping force than bolts.

Oh for sure ARP thru out maybe I will skip the O ring and just beef it up with ARP bolts and studs thru out !! So ready to tear in to it while the car is undergoing surgery LOL

Have to agree. Mike (our happy forum host) always recommends the ARP rod bolts and you can't go wrong with the head studs. I don't think you'll need much more clamping force on the head unless you are boosting the engine.

Roboto65,
If you're not planning on running a turbo or supercharger, or even Nitrous then there's no real reason to O-ring the block.
Just use head studs, jack up the compression a bit, and have fun!

If you can swing it....get the aluminum head...you won't regret it!

Later,
Will

Oh I have been looking real hard at the aluminum head for sure LOL..

As far as pistons go do not want to drop 700 dollars on pistons are the Keith Blacks whatever part number they are anycheaper as I know they are a good piston!!!

And I would love to run a turbo but unless they come out with a kit for it I am not in the postion to hunt parts down and such for that project but I do like the idea of EFI for reliablity..
