ill check for other stuff like the balancer. i have an extra pan seal and im doing an oil change anyways so ill pull the pan and take some pictures. I recently replaced the fuel pump, i got one for a 170 because when i got the car i was told it had a 170. it fit... so i dunno! thanks for all the help this forum is awesome. I think its real fun trying to decode fords mystery's! BTW how are you pushing 200hp! i want to do that with my 65!!!
For starters, my pistons were flat top and aftermarket ones...they were stamped with a .060 on each piston and the bore measured well over 3.5"...if I remember right, they were almost 3 5/8" which tells me that it is a 200ci 5 freeze plug 4 bearing block...the performance six hand book and research on Google says it was a 200 from a 62 Fairlane.

As for getting 200+hp out of a six, $$$...I have almost 3K in my engine...the head alone was a grand almost, it's a '69 truck head with bean shaped chambers, roughly 10:1 compression...bigger valves, 3 angle valve job and HP springs...then another 400+ for the roller rockers...another 200 for the 260H Comp cam...new lifters...another 650 for the Holley 350 2bbl conversion including the Lokar linkage and '69 used pedal assembly...another 750 for the dual outlet custom modified header and ball flange connector with half an X-pipe to connect to the exhaust...another 300 for the high torque starter and haven't even touched the dizzy except for the Pertronix ignition...all I can say it that when I have given people rides and show off a little, they just say WOW!!...is it a 289 or a 302 :rolflmao: :rolflmao: ...nobody can believe it's a 6 banger...it pulls very hard and strong...C4 tranny with a shift kit...will light the tires in first with no problem and chirps 2nd gear unless I let off the throttle...I hope this info was helpful

The head according to the casting numbers was a '69 250 truck head...it has the bean shaped higher compression head with big log intake...I have seen the canted head but think they are not worth the effort due to the bigger chambers...you would need to shave a lot of head to gain any kind of compression, this would just weaken the sealing surface.

Oh, and just so you all know...the Chevy stovebolt six is only a 4 main block too...I have seen articles of them pushing 500+hp from those old sixes...since mine was freshly rebuilt when I bought the Ranchero, I saw now reason to dump it just because it's not a 7 bearing block...so part of my fun is to see what kind of abuse it will take...so far it's holding up fine.
