Do you have a spare Duraspark module you can throw on it to test it?

That sounds like what mine used to do.

Also check your battery cables very carefully

new fuel pump, new fuel filter, new ignition module, new ignition coil, cleaned and inspected all battery cable connections, inspected and cleaned carburator, removed cleaned, filed and regaped plugs, inspected cap and rotor looked fine ,i just cant seem to figure it out, first time in 6 years of owning the car that its given me a problem

does it do it while driving or while idling? yesterday my truck was stalling on the highway cause some idiot forgot to turn off the hand choke
or for awhile, the jeep would do similar while driving, sometimes being fine for as much as an hour before dying. just needed to tune in the carb and that fixed it

while driving,it'll just die then you'll have too sit a few mins. cause itll just crank if you try to start it right after it does it

Have you checked your pickup coil/stator in the dizzy, if it is a DSII? They will do the same thing. After it dies, get out and check if you have spark at a plug or not, this will confirm since you have changed everything else it seems. Good luck.

You need to isolate fuel or spark so right when it dies you should remove the air cleaner and see if the carb is still delivering fuel (check the accelerator pump squirt). If fuel looks fine then you can chase down a spark problem.

:D Had the same problem with a couple of vehicles in the past.Turned out in all cases to be a failing coil.Just because an electrical part(or any other is new)does`nt mean that it is NOT defective.

More sophisticated minds than me have given sage advice. However, that is a symptom of a blocked fuel pickup in the tank as well. After stopping, the crud blocking the intake filter falls away due to lack of suction. Fuel is topped up in the carb and you can go again until it is plugged again. Solution is to clean out the tank and make sure the inlet filter is clean.

1977 eh? Check out the fuel filter located INSIDE THE FUEL TANK. They get gummed up and the suction collapses the filter mesh onto itself; then relaxes when it sits for a bit so it will start back up.

I've got an easy one for you to check. Take off the gas cap.

I had a car that the gas tank vent clogged and it would do what you're describing. I discovered it when I took the gas cap of and it hissed. After it stalls, try taking the cap off and see if it make a difference.

Another common fuel problem is a clogged fuel filter (especially the one that screws into the carb). If you haven't replaced it in the last 5000 miles, (or two years) it is just good maintainence to replace it. You should do this even if it is electrical. It only costs a few bucks and takes ten minutes.

I agree that you need to isolate fuel or elecrtic. It does sound to be more electric in nature.

Bring a Pepsi bottle (24 oz with screw-on lid) half full of gasoline. When it quits (don't wait for it to cool), pour about two ounces of gas down the carb and try to start it. If it fires, you've got a fuel problem.

If it doesn't fire, check to be sure there's not a spark. If there's no spark, you've got an electric problem. Then the most likely culperts are the module, the coil, and the pickup (the little electric thingy under the rotor).
Good Luck

problem fixed, fuel strainer in the tank must have been clogged, pulled it off and threw it in the weeds, now the drivers side tie rod fell off

:D Hope it was in the driveway when the tie rod fell off.Back about 1962 had one fall off when I was turning a corner. That was an adventure.Hehehehe.

A really ugly one is a Falcon or Mustang strut snapping or coming loose with single circuit braking.

The lower arm bends right back, wheel tucks under the torque box and the brake line can tear apart. All of a sudden, frozen steering and no brakes.

There's two lessons from this - split circuit brakes, and safety devices on your strut nuts.
