oil filter shaft question

the shaft that my oil filter screws onto doesn't seem to be making it,, I have to really crank on the filter to keep it from leaking,,checked the surface of the block/filter area and everythings clean as a whistle, I don't know the name of the shaft or what it takes to replace it

any help/info appreciated.....thanks

I beleve that is cast in the block.... could be too clean you want a little oil on the rubber gasket of the new filter so it don't stick when you instal it and bind up causing a leak...

Make sure the gasket from the old filter isn't stuck on there. That'll make it leak.

checked everything and it's clean as a whistle,,,no crud at all and I've always put oild on the new filter,,,,,it's kinda hard to believe that a threaded piece a pipe for oil low would be cast into the block

Well, the pipe nipple coming out of the block doesn't have anything to do with it sealing or not...

That's totally dependent on the gasket.

kinda looks like it's dripping off the filter,,it's hard to tell from the spot where I park at,,,,I've try'd 2 different brands of filters and 4 filters total ,,and they all do the same thing,,,in order for the dripping to stop I have to mangle the end of the filter to get it to stop dripping

Its easy enough if its running off the filter... Just run your hand around it if you get oil on your hand then its running down the filter... If its running down the block and off the pan then maybe its the pan gasket... but if you can get it tight enough to be able to mangle the end of the filter I don't think its the pipe fitting it screws onto.... unless you got it cross threaded once but with all the filters you put on it I'd look else where. like running down form the Valve Cover gasket or pan gasket, timming chain cover.. You'd be suprised how bad the fan well blow oil every where making it hard to find the actual prob.....
I don't know how clean your motor is but I would get some motor cleaner and clean the shit out of the motor then run it and see where you see anything coming form...
Good Luck

It's also possible that the gasket sealing surface on the filter is damaged, and causing it to leak.

Which means you may have to take to using some sealant on there each time you put it together.

Might be a good excuse to switch to a remote filter setup, and seal the adapter on there once and for good.

remote filter idea and sealer sounds good,,living in az with it's 110 degree + days I've been thinking of getting an oil cooler, it would probably be a good idea to do both...it just drives me nuts that 1 minute everythings cool and the next theres a leak that requires me to really crank on the end of the filter to get it to stop leaking
