Oil Leak

I have a small oil leak from where my dizzy contacts the engine. I have burned a quart of oil in 650 miles. I have a 200. I put in the new DUI dizzy. Came with new o ring but doesnt seem to be big enough.I also noticed that once the engine warms up, when I come to a stop, the oil pressure bottoms out. Could it be because of the leak at the dizzy, or is it from some other problem that im not seeing. Engine was rebuilt with new molly rings and cam bearings. Rebuilt only 650 miles ago. What am I missing here?

I have a new DUI also, it also leaks at the base. I guess we need to call DUI and get a gasket. I haven't noticed a drop in oil pressure. or use of oil.

Apparently the oil ring on the distributor or i should say o-ring seal on the dizzy housing is not the correct diameter to seal the housing.
First swap the o-ring seal from your old dizzy & see if it seals properly.
Using a quart of oil in 600 miles is excessive. I would change oil & monitor it for several more hundred miles. If the consumption continues two thing could have happened, the cylinders were honed with too rough a finish-280 & should be honed with a 500 grit hone. The 280 rough finish will destroy the moly on the rings & cause oil consumption.
Second what kind of valve guide seals were used??
If you remove the plugs & see a large amount of oil on the threads you have one of the above problems.
Back to the oil leak at the distributor, performance distributors builds a great unit for chevys, but what i've seen on the 200 six is sloppy workmanship on their rebuilt duraspark units. The DUI's ????
The loss of oil pressure when slowing down, sounds like the pickup screen & pipe came loose from the oil pump & is sucking air.
The 200 pan needs baffles installed to keep the oil in the sump even under hard stops.
The best example is look at a small block chevy pan with the trap door in the front of the sump to keep oil in the sump under hard braking, & also has baffles on the sides to prevent oil sloshing all over the place.
You may have to pull the engine & take it to a machine shop that knows what they are doing.
I hate to mention chevy, but they had there act together even in the early 60's- windage tray & all.
Remember this six cylinder back in those days was a mom & pops & grannys car for economy transportation, & now we are pushing the design over the limits. Bill

Using oil during a new engine break in can be fairly normal as rings seat and such. Did you follow the break in instructions from your engine builder? Have you contacted the builder to see if he/she/they think its all normal? May be good to keep in touch with them just incase there is an issue.

I have not heard of any issues with DUI stuff but IIRC there is a pretty big oil passage that goes through or is plugged by the dizzy If there was something that was machined wrong it could effect oil pressure and if its leaking there is something wrong, it may be minor but something. Are you running a stock oil pressure gauge? Electric or mechanical? Are you hearing any noises that make you think there is an oil pressure problem? If I was you I would think about picking up a $30 autoparts store mechanical gauge just to confirm the readings I am seeing. You dont want to risk screwing up a new motor.

I was having the same issue with my DUI, but after some exhaustive searching for a different o-ring I couldn't find one that worked any better. Had the unit in and out several times trying to fix the leak...even fabbed up my own gasket but the oil leaked right past the gasket. Then one day after I had been messing with it it just stopped...and I'm wondering if I just didn't have the dizzy tightened down tight enough. With the larger shaft it was tough to get a wrench on the bolt. I switched to an allen bolt and that works much better.

Well I totally rebuilt the motor myself. I have been a mechanic for years. Everything was titghtened down to where it should be. The guages in the car are electronic, but i bought a mechanical one but havent had the time to put it in yet.

The only thing is the oil sender unit is original, so i was thinking that was my problem, but i couldnt phathom spending 60 bucks on a new one when i can go mech. for 10. But when i stop, I dont hear any clucking, or pinging. No oil on the plugs so i know i aint getting any blow by.. The cylinders weren't honed because they were damn near perfect. The car runs like a top.

But I wasnt sure about the oil pressure because when it drops and i go to take off it stutters then kicks in real quick and flys out of its stance. Maybe it is just the guage. But my DUI is irritating me with that oil leak.
