Oil press. guage question?

I got a VDO mech. oil press. guage and the specs say that it bleeds off air when in the line. Now when I first start the engine (cold) the line is full of oil but when the motor gets warm after a while of running, the line becomes filled with air. Is this a pressure problem, or guage problem? What could be causing it?

Any thoughts?
