Oil pump hex shaft

I went to pull out the Load-O and when I did, the hex-shaft came with it, but not all the way out. I kinda jiggled it and it fell back on. Is that normal? There is a tad bit of play in it. But, I slid the DSII on there and it went on fine, and all the way down in the hole.

If that's alright, now I can get this gear swapped over from the load-o, and FINALLY be on my way with EI.

What changed w/ the DSII that allowed it to fit ?

To be honest I don't really know. I took it down to the partshouse and told em it wouldn't fit. Thank goodness for lifetime warranties; he just said sure, boxed it up, and got me a new one. Went home, and ta-daa, it fits. Weirdest thing.

Just goes to show... just 'cause it new, doesn't mean it's right.

I had to take some emory cloth to the part of the housing that goes into the block. The 60's blocks seem to be a little bit tighter in that area...

Right-O John. Ian is referring to when I tried to do this about 2 months ago (thus my car has been sitting for 2 months) and we never really figured out why it wouldn't go in.

I think you were originally the one who tipped me off on the emory cloth too. Thanks for that

I wonder if it's either over-aggressive bead blasting that expands the outer surface, or the pressing in of a new lower bush which blows it up a thou or two.

Of course, the old cast iron could be contracting, too! That would show up if it's presently out of round.

It could also just be a peice of crap part cast in the peoples republic.

I had to get a new ds2 dizzy the other day because the crappy rebuild on the old one caused the plate to come loose. hat in turn made the magnet pickup start hitting the hex gear which made the motor run like crap. Anyhoo the old one came in and wet out fine the new one however would not go in. I had to take some wet sand paper to the shaft to get it in all is well now. The only thing I can thinkof is when theyrebuilt it ad they resurfaced the dizzy they added a little too much of the rough coating they put on.

It's easier to deal with this one as too large, than too small and either off center or wobbling around.
