Oil pump issues...

Apparently there are two of them for the small six, a 4 5/16" and a 4 5/8" or so. I'm assuming a '65 200 takes the longer one since the one I had hit the #3 main cap bolt and wasn't able to be tightened down...I tried to grind the pump to clear the bolt but broke through the side casting before it came close to fitting. I'm guessing I had the short one, of course that one was $20 vs. the $50 long one.

I found it while priming the oil pump; the hex shaft dropped down and was cocked at an angle. At least I found it before I ground the distributor gear to dust

And here I thought I might have the engine in by today, including the transmission rebuild. Now I have to wait until Thursday for the new Melling pump to come in.

where did you get the melling pump, I had one in my I6 capri and don't want to get anything else when I get another car, but can't seem to find em (I worked at melling at the time, so I just ordered though our purchaser)

Got it from Autozone. They had three different pumps, I said might as well go with a known quantity. Nobody else could have a pump here this week.

i had two spun bearing and still have 35 lbs of oil pressure with that pump. I won't use another if I ever rebuild a 6 again. The "stock" cam replacement was a nice unit too.
