My oil dipstick shows a little overfilled....The oil has a strong smell of gasoline...The fuel pump is about a year old and the car has been sitting all winter with a very rare start up. I cleaned the plugs and ran it for about an hour yesterday around the block and such. I HOPE I didn't or won't cause any "real" damage. Anyone have an opinion???

Same problem here. Thought it was the fuel pump, replaced it. Then thought it was the float in the carb...replaced it. Turned out it may be my new fuel pump too...

If your fuel pump has been sitting a long time, it is possible for hte diaghram to get brittle and start to leak.

It shouldn't have hurt your engine, but do replace your fuel pump and drain and replace your oil and filter.

If you get enough gasoline in the oil, it will tear up the bearings, but a few cups (enough to see a rise in the oil level) shouldn't hurt the engine if it wasn't run hard. From blue_pony_66's description of how he used the car, I would guess that their hasn't been any "real" damage.

But I'd definitely change the fuel pump and oil & filter before driving it any more.

My 250 had that problem. The pump leaked gas into the sump. It's very common for duel fueled cars which run on propane most of the time, then on gasoline occasionally.

The aromatic hydrocarbons rip the goodness out of the rubber seals. Get it rekitted if you can...I know its expensive, but do it soon. There could be a porus casting in the pump, or it may be a simple problem with how bad the quality of the rekit was.

When it happened to me in 1996, I had a full tank of gas, a full tank of propane, and I didn't want to spend 51 bucks on getting it fixed. The Ford parts dealer laughed. He said if I gave him the gasoline, he'd deduct it off the price of the pump. In NZ, 63 liters (17 US gal) of gasoline was 70 bucks! I just blanked off the pump, and used it for my Briggs and Stratton lawn mower. Took a year to get rid of all that gas

This engine is a 250 cid from a 79 Granada that I transplanted into my 66 mustang. This was a VERY easy swap using the Granada motor mounts.

I can't remember if this pump is new or the origional (59,000 mi.) But it will definately be changed out before I start the car again.
