Oil to Rockers

This could be the dumbest question or the best question (never the smartest) I ever asked. If I look into the filler cap on my valve cover, how much oil should I see moving around? I see very little pooling on the floor of the head and even less on the rocker shaft. Did I do something wrong during re-assembly? The pedastels had shoulder bolts all the way around. Someone please ease my paranoia!

I have had mine running with the valve cover off and most of the oil seems to run down the pushrods so you really dont see much 'flowing' around up there.

Well thats a relief! I can see some, like I said, but not a heck of alot. I have plenty of oil pressure but I have slight tappet noise. I dont remember hearing that when it was running before. Of course, I'm listening with a little more of a prejudice ear now :) Oh well, on to bigger fish to fry. Seems like I have either a massive vacuum leak or my vacuum advance is on the fritz. I have troubles getting moving, stalling, sputtering, backfiring, but once it gets up in the rpms it runs fine. Could be the choke also .....so many bugs!

Thanks for looking BTW! ;)

Ron,

Read the sticky that Dennis wrote on rocker shaft oiling.

You might want to pull the rocker assembly to inspect and clean it. Could be you have some plugged passage ways in the rockers. The article tells you how to do it and what to look for. Could also be sticky lifters.

Thanks Mike, I remember that post. I replaced the shaft during the rebuild so my biggest concern is I put it together wrong. I'm leaning to the sticky lifters now. I'll put a few miles on it and see what happens. Man, I forgot what a slug this car feels like. It feels like you are not going anywhere and then you look at the speedo and you are doing 50 mph! Too much time in the truck I guess  Forgot how a car rides
