Okay .... Heres the deal, I have 1,300.00 To spend on my engine. But, the guy who is gonna rebuild it is charging $850.00 to put in new "accessories" and other stuff into the engine. Now, that leaves me at 450.00 to spend.

Alright, So I am gonna purchase new headers.. its gonna be either the
53-2112 1960-up 170-200 250 Dual Outlet Shorty w/small starter ..
http://www.cliffordperformance.com/cata ... 747418.htm

Okay, Which ones should I get. Also, If you were to get one of them, what exhaust pipes am I gonan need, like x pipes? h pipes? .. I am planning on ordering 'em tonight .... So i dotn have too much time

they can come in dual outlet I bleieve....FSPP headers are worth it in looks and lasting...

trust us

it says they are sold out til 9/01/04 or something like that ? we are in october.. uhh, still sold out? i mean, imma trust ya'll and get it, but i mean .. ahhh, they dont have it n e more???? argh... nooooo!!!

but another question with that, i want the dual outlet headers ... what kinda pipes am i gonna need and where can i get 'em?

I'd put a good cam in there also and the double roller timing set from FSPP
talk to Azcoupe, he will definatly provide you with good knowledge and parts.

alot of people have ordered stuff from clifford and then waited months to their parts. plan wisely and your money will go further.

good luck

John

You can use a dual exhaust system for a V8 on your Stang. The muffler shop will have to make a couple extra bends to hook it up to the 6 cylinder header, but its no big deal.

I bought mine off ebay and hooked it up in my own shop in just a afternoon.

You can get a V8 exhaust system from National Parts Depot, The Paddock, Mustangs Plus, etc, etc...

Go with Mikes headers. :D :D :D

Later,

Doug

BTW 1967FordMustangs, who is doing your engine work? I need a head milled and I'm new to the area (Modesto).

new accessories?
what.. like a new oil pump, new water pump, alternator and such? because that's what i'd consider accessories, and replacing them does not mean that you've rebuilt an engine

if they are actually going to rebuild the engine, they should put in new rods and pistons, a new cam & lifters, possibly a new crank, rebuild the head with new springs and valves

because $850 for new accessories only... that's a rip off

Clarification is needed. Exactly what is coming for the $850?

Forget the headers; the $450 would be chewed up in other stuff that will actually produce more power in the immediate term. DS-II with recurve, decent coil, carb and adapter, water pump, good radiator, new trans mount (usually old and rotted if you have an auto).

Leave it as a slush fund for getting the motor in and running, and put any leftovers towards the header install. You might even run dual outs and good mufflers. I don't mean to disappoint, but to save you disappointment.

Regards, Adam.

Absolutely let us know what they are doing for $850!

Mike's stuff (FSPP) is definitely where you want to shop. I got everything from him (see specs below).

The FSPP or Pacemaker headers are an excellent choice. Mine fit like a glove. The Pacemakers (like mine) with the dual outlets are 2". You just need a muffler shop to run 2" pipes to the mufflers of your choice and the out the back. Plan on somewhere between $50 and $125 for a pair of mufflers depending on your choice (search for mufflers on the forum...they've been covered a LOT!).

Like ADDO said, there is no point in putting headers on if your motor isn't running right to begin with. Getting it back in the car and tuned up is going to be more expensive than you cna plan for...trust me, I just did it! Take ADDO's advice and hold that "extra" cash until you've got the motor back in and running right THEN decide how to spend it. You'll thank him for that piece of wisdom...I garauntee.

The question I have to ask myself, is: Did I listen to others' experience at that age?

 ^n

I walked a lot. And I mean, a lot.

Get the FSPP headers. they are head and shoulders above clifford in quality...plus you'll actually get them in a timely manner!

After that, get the valves enlarged with a new cam and double roller timing chain. That will really wake the engine up though you'll need another carb to take advantage of it.

Theres no way I'd pay *anybody* $850 to do anything to a motor. If I had $1300 to spend on a I6, it'd be pretty f*ckin fast!! Ok, very fast

But thats just me

So you have your own machine shop eddi? You can bore and hone cylinders, deck a block, mill a head, mill an intake/exhaust surface, hottank, etc? Must be nice!

While $1300 sounds like a wad of cash, what is it you think you could slap on for that kind of do to make it F'ing fast  (assuming you don't have to pay for the machine shop work)?

cam: ~$100
roller rockers: ~$400 - $500
lifters, pushrods: $100
carb upgrade: $100?
larger valves and seals: ~$100
springs and retainers: ~$100
roller timing: ~$100
pistons, rings: ~$200

There is your $1300 and you're not done yet...gunna use the old radiator to cool it? Old ignition to fire it? you get the picture...If you have a machine shop at your disposal AND the skills needed, you can save a boat load of dough. Unfortunately, for most of us, that's not an option.

Here is a great place to start for <$1000:

I just finished making an F'ink fast 6 and it costs a LOT more than $1300 NOT including the machine shop work

The shops around here in LA charge as much if not more to rebuild/machine an I6 block compared to a small block eight anything. Then add to that the scarcity of performance parts for the I6. But if you can do it for 1300 bux, dude I'm sending my stuff over to your machinist's shop.

I dont have a machine shop, buta shop. So I do what I have the tools for, and the machinework wouldnt cost me near $850

So thats me, not him. Thats why I said theres no way I would pay... whatever. No biggie. No need for anybody to get hteir pantiesin a wad :P

lol

no wad man. I was just seeing if I could get get a hookup from your machinist. hehehe

i don't wear panties....since the hearing.

I'd be genuinely interested to know what the machine work would run ya since I just paid for all of mine: Hottank and cleaning the head and block, bore and hone the cyl's, polish the crank, deck the block, mill the head and intake and exhaust faces, install new hardened valve seats
