My stang never warms up!! it really cold around here but even in summer is has to be 90+ and i have to be idleing in traffic before itll go past the low side of normal and in the winter or even below 50 degrees out it never reaches even the low side of normal. ive put a 180 themo in it and the first time itll warm up, till i add water and antifreeze....

Could the temp sensor be reading low? the engine is out of a 80 fairmont and i dont think they used the 65 temp sending unit are they the same?

Help is appreciated as its get very cold driving that car....

the temp sending units are interchangable IIRC.

Don't trust the gauge on the dash. Real quick way to check if the car is warming up. Turn on the heat. If you have a decent amount of heat, then your car is heating up. If you want to know more exact temperatures, then get a mechanical gauge and run it to the water jacket and see what temp your car is running at.

Yes, replacement temp sending units vary. I had the same problem with a replacement sender. I pulled an old one off of a 73 Comet that I had and the guage functions normally. You can verify the temp with an Infared thermometer.
