(I have posed this to the Aussie section, as well)

Hello, all.

Once again, I am in need of the collective help of everyone here. And, once again, I probably won't express my thanks as much as I would like, but, thank you all, in advance.

As a quick recap, I have an Aussie Ford Falcon XA, with an Aussie 250 ci 6 in it. The catch is that I'm in the U.S.

Anyhow, I have my water pump out, now, since I got bored waiting for my timing set to get here from Oz. In any case, I noticed that the.. errr.. metal "plate" in between the impeller and the actual water pump housing is starting to crack through. I was a bit bummed because now I've got to take the who shebang apart. I guess it wouldn't of mattered, anyhow, since there appears to be a gasket between the housing and the "plate" anyhow. (What's strange is that this water pump doesn't exactly look like the one in my XA factory manual.. it looks a little different, and my manual didn't show this "plate" at all... in any case...)

So, firstly, can I get a new one of these "plates" here in the States, or do I have to order from Down Under, again? Also, my book says that I should replace the bearings, etc., if I take this sucker apart (should I?), so, the same question there.. can I get it from the States, or do I have to order from Oz/NZ? Anything else I should be considering here?

Thanks a million, way in advance.

I'm not sure but sence the wp mounts to the block. I'm thinking you might be able to just use a regular wp for a 250. Again I'm not sure, but I think the blocks are the same. Sence you have it off I'd go to the parts store and see if it matches up to a U.S. 250 pump. Can't hurt..

the US 250 pump will bolt to the block, but the pulleys are different. You'll need to get a 250 pulley or make and adapter of some kind to fit the Oz pulley.

Thanks for the reply.. that really helps.. Just to clarify, though--exactly how are the U.S. and Oz pullies different? Depth? Diameter? And.. if I just keep my Oz pully flange, and put it on the U.S. water pump.. will that work?

The center hole differs. The oz engines used a unique clutch fan and the hole in the center of the pulley is rather large. The US pump is more conventional and has a 5/8" center shaft.

Also, one more question.. if I were just to get a U.S. water pump and a U.S. pully.. would everything line up ok, once again?

hmmm.. ok.. I wonder where I can get a U.S. pully? Junk Yard? Other?

Of course, I wonder if it's possible to get a brass pipe of some sort with an inner 5/8 dia and an outer "rather larger" dia.. ? Would the pully line up front to back doing this, though?

Do you have the Oz pulley? Maybe you could weld a washer to the center.

When I put mine together, the US pump and pulley lined up with the Oz drive pulley.

Yeah, I have the pully.. of course, if the fan bolts fit, and the OZ pully's hole is larger.. does it really matter if the shaft and the hole connect?

It kind of does.. If the hole and the shaft don't come in contact the all the prusser from the fan belt is on the bolts instade of the shaft. Might cause worpage of the fan to wobble..
