Oz250 head, Port Dividers, and Set screws...did you do it?

Okay, as mentioned in another thread, my port divider broke loose from the high temp epoxy. I have a main theory on this based on some preassembly pictures, but that's besides the point right now. Basically I'm tired of the rattle. It's embarrassing on an otherwise great running engine.

I really don't want to pull the headers off. The studs I used would be a nightmare to pull. I don't want to pull the intake manifold off either. I'm looking at tapping 2 holes in the head right above the 3-4 exhaust port and using some set screws to hold the port divider in place. I only entertain this idea since I've heard of others doing this with success.

What I want...pictures? email them if you can't post them. I'm just curious about location. Last thing I want to do is drill holes into my head (the car head, not my head) without being informed.

Thanks.

Slade,

Be careful you don't want metal shavings in the head. I do appreciate your situation. I'm running old cyclone headers on my car. The starter died, I had to remove the the intake, headers and the the air conditioning bracket (blocking the header) to pull the starter.

Mike, I hear you about the shavings. I shouldn't get any in there since I'm going trying to drill through the head, just enough to get a set screw into the divider.

I know someone has done this. I've read it before, I don't come up with hair brain ideas on my own.

When I had the machine shop put in the divider I told them to use two dowels (or set screws). But, it sounds like my port divider broke in two. Which is not uncommon. I can not hear any rattle from the engine compartment or inside the car. If I listen to the exhaust at the rear of the car I can hear some rattleing and it is NOT the exhaust or anything else.

In my opinion the port divider is more trouble than it is worth on a Aussie 250 head.

I tapped mine and put bolts in. Never had a problem with it. But I didn't happen to take any pics, sorry.

Mike,

Any info on the general size of the set screw? did you tap it twice (once on each side of the divider) or just one in the center? How far into the divider did you go? I'll take a picture of where I plan to tap and let me know it it looks good.

why would shavings matter that much on the exhaust side of it.....provided you blow it out before starting the engine?
