OZ2502V Intake Install question

When I first installed the intake on the head (first rebuild last year), I threaded the bolts in EITHER direction (through the intake into the head or some went through the head into the intake). I think it was a convenience of access to the bolt heads. Does it matter? Should I be running the bolts one way or the other? Should I be using nuts on the ends or just let the threads in the head/intake handle pulling it together?

Plase explain better, I have experiance with two (mine and my son's ) aussie 2v heads and have no clue what you are talking about? Between both of us we have had the heads off 10-15 times and what you discribe is not clear to us?

i always bolted mine through the head and onto the manifold,that means the head of the bolt is facing the rocker cover,i never used nuts on them as my bolts only just went through (like 1mm).hope this helps,im from oz.

To clarify (sorry), I'm talking about the bolts that hold the intake to the head. The first part of the original question seems to have solved itself as during install last night, i realized that because of the shape of the intake runners and clearance, the bolts can only go in one way each. I'm an idiot.

The second question was would it help to createa better seal by using nuts on the ends of the bolts that protrude all the way through (either the head or the intake)?

Someone will say I'm wrong , but here is what I documented on a low mileage original 2V (the one with factory single out extractors):

All the lower fixings (four of) are studs normally attached to the head. The upper fixings (four again) are two studs normally attached to the fanimold at centre, and two hex head bolts at outer points. There are regular old steel hex nuts and (from memory) spring washers under all.

The OEM lift eyes mounted on the lower studs between 2&3 and 4&5 ports. The opposing lift eye was on the coil bracket fixing. This gave a three-point mount for installing the motor with gearbox attached to the car (how they were done).

Engines were painted with the gearbox attached and overspray through the starter mount hole leaves a characteristic grey-blue disc on the flywheel or flexplate.

Thanks I now understand the question. We use stainless steel bolts the bottom ones face the head and the top face the intake. Our two center bolts over the 3&4 cyl is a stud that we use a nut on. We use the studs on 3&4 as a guide when installing the intake as it can be hard to balance with a Holly 4v or Holly 2v mounted to the intake. I remind you not to over tighten the blots as the intake is aluminum and you can pull the threads out Make sure you use a good soft gaskets and not the harder ones, we have found the hard ones leak and can only be used once because when the intake is unbolted that gasket splits in half part trying to stay attached to both the intake and the head. BTW we make our own gaskets using large sheets of gasket material, it's cheaper and better material. Hope this info was of help?
