piston choices for a 300

Started out this build lookin' for a good solid engine capable of about 300 HP on a 100 shot of NO2. After building the engine with what I thought were good pistons I was rudely awakened to the fact that they were not. The things were not made specifically for the 300.

I think that I ended up buying a set of 350 pistons that somebody put 6 of in a box and sending to me. They told me that it was "specific to the 300". Long story short the connecting rods tapped the sides of the skirts on the pistons and the number 6 flared out into the cylinder wall (reeeeeeeeelllly tight tolerances on the machining) and cracked the block. The whole thing tanked doing 70 on the highway in a little under 2 seconds.

Since then I've picked up a worn out 240 for $250.

Here's the question. I want a good piston that isn't going to tank another motor, and am looking to spray it with a solid 100 Hp shot. Who makes anything to do this, and can make it in around an 8:1 to a 9:1 ratio? I can use either the 240 head or find another 300 head to get the ratio to around 9:1 when I'm done. I don't really want to run premium in this thing because it's gonna be my tow/fun rig. Hope you guys can help. ford-trucks.com sent me over.

Howdy and welcome to the forum!

Federal-Mogul makes good hypereutectic pistons that are significantly stronger than the stock cast units and they stay strong at elevated temps.

In my 81 F-150 I am running hypereutectcs that were made for replacement pistons in the EFI 300 engines. The EFI pistons have a deeper dish which LOWERS compression; they would be a a good choice for use with your 240 head in a tow rig (the EFI heads have chamber volume similar to a 240 head).

Do a little port work on the 240 head, add some Chebbie size valves, toss in an Isky 256 SuperCam and you're well on your way :D

I know nothing about nitrous.
