ok guys, i have one piston in and desided to take a quick measurement. i get .040 piston to deck clearnce. seems kinda high to me, is it?
granted i am using a straight edge and feeler gauge so it could be less and it could be more, given the straightness of the edge. :?
anyhow is that about right right? if not should i deck the block or shave my head   to achieve the comp ratio i am shooting for. 10:1
thank rob

That would be about right for a new piston in an undecked block, but make sure you have TDC correctly figured.

Stock, the deck is about .020-.025", but replacement pistons are very often "destroked" with a shorter height to account for milling the deck.

.040 is a lot, especially combined with a composite head gasket (.045-.055"). I would consider bringing the deck back to zero and running a composite gasket.
