Please tell me about this carb...

There is a rebuilt, non-original Autolite 1100 carb on my 1967 Mustang 200 ci six, automatic transmission. Not sure what kind of distributor. It needs a rebuild. I am not sure if it's the right carb for the car. It looks like it is missing some parts. How can I find out how the carb is supposed to be configured for my car, and whether or not this one is correct?

Howdy Miss:

Autolite 1100 carbs are all identical in appearance, making IDing a bit difficult. One barrel carbs very seldom have an ID tag. So, you are left with a few clues to help you narrow the process of IDing. An Autolite 1100 for you car will have a second diaphragm on the side of the float bow- opposite from the accelerator pump. The correct carb for your year should have a Spark Control Valve (SCV) on the side next to the vacuum port. If these two items are present you can be relatively sure the carb is correct for your engine.

Another variable is the inner dimension of the venturi, which cannot be seen from the outside. A correct carb for your engine should have a 1.20" venturi. 144 and 170 carbs are smaller meaning less air flow. A carb from either will work on a 200 but be down on power.

Post a photo if possible for better visual ID. Also, verify that you are working with a Load-O-Matic type distributor. In 1968 Ford made a big change to a distributor with both vacuum and centrifugal advance. In a transition era, sometimes later parts found their way into earlier years. So, check to make certain which distributor you have.

Good luck and keep us posted on what you find.

Adios, David

X2 :hmmm: however on cars that were built for California market they changed the carb and distributor in 1967 so check your door tag for the DSO number to determine what market the car was built for, or as CZLN6 said you can also post some pictures to help in ID'ing them. Good luck

I went to the drop box album and could not find any carb pic in the 69 pic U posted there.

Can some 1 w/only 5 posts put up pic here? Did Perry change anything w/that aspect of his wrk?

MissM - do U have any pic of the carb to show on another drop box link (the 2 sides help ID the most. Lookin 4 dat lill "button w/elongated holes").

Otherwise look at the Index page for this forum (horrizontal line above - 144-250 "Sm Blk" 6 Perf) & click on the stared item (Classic Inlines Archive) to go to tech pages I believe have info U need - SCV/LOM, feedback systerm for carb/dizzy. I thinik I recall a pic of the 1100 on those pages. Also "ford 6 performance handbook" many of us use has pic and much more on maint/up grades to these engines. It will have pic to help ID. Vintage Inlines dot com has the book available on-line.

Let us know how yer doin w/all this...
