Plug Choice

Hello Everyone. One last critical step before my 200 is ready to go in. Spark Plug choice. I know that this has probably been discussed but I can't find it!

Anyway, my 200 is running ported polished head, yella terra rollers, 2 bbl carb, clay smith 264 cam, oversize valves. Not a race engine but no street slouch either. Motorcraft or autolite are always preferred. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Howdy BH:

Motorcraft or Autolite are fine. My suggestion is what ever is on sale at the moment and in the heat range ballpark for your engines factory specs. The point is you will not know on heat range until you get the carb jetting/tuning and ignition advance dialed in. Then start with what you have and assess plug condition to zero in on a best heat range.

I used to like Champion plugs because they had a slightly more extended tip and they, along with Smokey Yanuck. pioneered the concept. Since then other Plug manufacturer have caught up. I still like indexing my plugs too, although it's a marginal plus and pretty anal. That's my two cents- for what it's worth.

Please report what you decide to use and how it works for you. (Ps- what's your CR?)

Adios, David

NGK 7510 WR5IX Iridium works the best for me.
Do not use in a turbo charged or supercharged engine, cause the hardened electrodes are not friendly to pistons if detonation occurs.
This is a 18mm plug so it will work only in iron heads.
They are pricy $35.00 for a six.
