problems with torque converter

Ok I had clifford rebuild my engine and had a really good local transmission shop do my tranny and got a new torque converter from them. The problem I have now is that the torque converter doesnt match up with my engine.

There is a center shaft that is way too big to go in, I thought it was a cover but I cant pull it off either.

Thats when I realize they sent me a 66 instead of a 68 like my orginal was. They had told me my old block was too beat up, but had never mentioned that the replacement block they found was not a 68. So my question is, does a 66's bellhouse and torque converter differ from a 68?

^heres what it looks like

Check and make sure there is not still a pilot bearing in the end of the crankshaft of the engine. If there is that will usually interfere with mounting a torque converter.
