Has anyone had any problems with crome-molly push rods breaking at top cups?
I'm using a 268/274 cam with the matching springs with damper. Also have a roller tip rocker assy. I've had the valve cover off a few times to check the lifter asjustments without any problems found. When I went to change my head gasket with a thinner steel gasket I was surprised to find three of the twelve push rods with damaged cups. The ball end of the rocker was still centered in the rod but a litle more than a third of the top of the cups were broken off.
I do drive it pretty hard at times. At the drags I shift at 5500 with a rev limiter so it they have never been over reved.
Has anyone had any problems using the standard push rods with a built up engine? I'm thinking of putting them back in.
