Ive gone out and tried to learn as much as i can on total timing. Im just not sure how it all adds together and how to find it and set it? Initial timing is easy and i have a timing light and soon to get the Ford six book

TOTAL timing is BASE TIMING say 10 DEG plus mechanicical advance ... This is what the dissy does as rpm increses typically it may be 20-25 Deg of mechanical advance which comes in in a cruve in relation to rpm.. more rpm more mechanical adcvance...
to check it rev up the motor and watch the mark on the balancer.. u need a dial back timing light so u can see howm muxh peak advance u are ruiing
