Last time I rebuilt my carb (holley 1946) was at high school, where I had access to a solvent tank to soak the metal parts. Now I need to rebuild it again, but I can't use the tank. So, is it important to soak it, and if so, what should I use?

I bought a 1 gallon carb dip tank for under $20 from CheckerAutoParts (Checker/Schucks/Kragen all the same). You can and should dip it.

ACE sells some industrial cleaner/degreaser that you mix with water that is awesome. It is purple and costs like 7$.

Throw that in with the right mix of water in a bucket and let it soak.

Then throw it in the dishwasher. Don't tell the wife.
