radiator swap question

I have a question about swaping a radiator. The radiator i have currently is cracked and leaking. The car is a 65 mustang with the original 200 ci engine and a 3spd trans. I am wondering if I can swap in a 3 row v8 radiator. It seems to be cheaper and i am planning to use flexible radiator hoses, so i think it could work. If not please tell me why.

Thank you!

ON ebay you can find the 6 cylinder ones for around $130 plus shipping. So why make it difficult on yourself, unless you can get a great deal on one i.e. free. You may also be able to have yours re-cored for fairly cheap as another option.

You could always go with an aftermarket aluminum radiator. They're usually cheaper than a new stock radiator if you get a generic one like the Summit Racing one I used. Here's a pic of how my '67 was setup.

I payed about $200, for my brand new 3 core, if i remember correctly alot of the people on this forum will say that the 2 row is quite sufficient when it comes to cooling needs. If you can find a cheaper 2 row, that will work in your car, or if yours could be recored for cheaper, then why not go with it.

2 Rows are fine so long as the rest of your cooling system is in good shape.

As far as the V-8 3 rows, to me, it was worth the extra $20 to get the I6 3 row not to have to waste hours finding the right hoses to make it work.

I have a 3-row, 6 cyl radiator from Advance. This is the only one that they had, I wanted a 2-row because they're thinner. I had a few problems getting a fan in there, but it's settled now. With the fan installed, I haven't seen the temp guage go past the first little tick mark on the guage and it used to live about 3/4 of the way up. It's too cold really, the heater doesn't work worth a crap with the fan on. So I took it off, and it gets to the second mark about a quarter of the way up the guage and stays glued there. I'm very happy with it.

Was about 150 bucks.

I got the 3 row for a six cylinder from either John's Mustang or Virginia Mustang....can't remember which, but it works great and the cost was reasonable.

Thank you all! I am gonna eventually buy a 3 row 6cyl version from mustangs plus since i live like a mile from them.

Anyways all my mustang projects are put off until i fix my other car that i messed up this weekend. I was driving it saturday at night and in pouring down rain and i couldnt see a median curb deviding two lanes and i smashed into it. Sadly i couldnt get any pix of it but it tore up the whole rim, tire, and riped off the control arm knuckle. This is a VW EuroVan, and the bill is gonna be BIG to fix this. So my mustang fun is gonna be limited for a while. ; ( Hope to be back at it soon!
