rear sump oilpan with an early motor

I have an early sixties six and just installed a late model oil pan on it to clear the mII crosmember I installed in my Falcon. my question is what do I do to get a workable dip stick. I would think that someone ran into this problem at least in the other direction when they installed a late model motor with an early model oil pan. does anyone have any ideas?

I think of two ways you could go; weld some tube in the side of your oil pan or drill a hole into the block for the tube. Well, third would be a sensor screwed in the side of the oil pan. Like F5LF-6C644-AA. It senses the oil level and you could hook a warning light to it. You'd still probably like to use the dip stick though...
