OK guys my TC wagon is nearly on the road..........finally.

Anyhow im after a recessed air filter to fit the 500 holley on a 2V in the Corty. Anyone using one got a part number or brand etc. Cheers Steve

iam not sure how succesful you will be as i managd to get one under the race car bonnet but only because it was skined and runbbed on the bonnet.
you may have to make a cleaner thatgoes to the left side of engine before there's an air cleaner to fit it under the bonnet

come on, hurry up!

I just bought a spankin new (well, its done 2000km) 2v engine complete from our local ford guy. Its got a 500 on it, and i'd really love to keep it, cos its good for about 230fwhp. Engine is coming out of an xy, and its gotta go in my TD Otherwise, I've got an original WW Strommy and filter which i know should fit. Anyone wanna guess what sort of power i'd lose going to the stromberg?

At the extent of sounding like a ricer, what about some sort of pod filter setup?

I think you might have to go to a custom drop base air cleaner. I don't think one would be hard to make for a Holley, given the circular shape of the top of the carby. I would go and buy a standard 14" air cleaner housing and start from there(assuming that this cleaner will clear other engine bay stuff like brake master cylinder/booster etc). Take some measurements and keep as much height above the carby as possible, after spending so much on the motor, you don't want to choke its performance with the air cleaner.

I ran into similar problems putting an air filter onto one of my earlier setups with a Weber 34ADM on an adapter back when I was running petrol. I tried a Lynx/Ramflo filter but even that would not clear the hood. In the end, I did a cut, shut and fibreglass job to make a custom cold air intake for it. While the shape of the intake was really good, I only had an inch or so above the top of the carby, which we found out on the dyno was restricting the airflow and causing the mixture to go rich. I picked up 3-4kw at the wheels by removing the air filter.

As far as I know, there are no off the shelf parts for it, so I would look at designing the best custom setup possible. Good luck with the motor, I hope to hear it running soon.

toymoter Petrol Hilux SR5 2.366 litre Four cylinder air cleaner, 1992-1994.

Or toymoter Land Cruiser 2-bbl 4.235 litre, 1976 to 1983.

Or Jeep 4.2 TBI before port injection.

I worked on a 2V Cortina TE in 1999, and it required the SR5 carb air cleaner to get the bonnet down. The remote filter even works, and its H-U-G-E!

...or

use a couple 8-10mm nuts as spacers and raise the rear of the bonnet. Its what we did with mine. only noticable up close, it sits up a tiny bit at the back, but now i can really hear my 500 suckin in the air :D
