Roasting Marshmallows Over My Headers??

I reinstalled my motor tonite and as I was breaking in my new cam, I noticed my headers glowing a dull red....

The timing was retarded quite a bit I found out! I readjusted it as quickly as I could grab my timing light.

Seems to be allright now....other than a melted wiring harness

Never seen that happen before...just had to share!

At one place where I used to work we ran engines in dyno cells and on occassion we would look in and the exhaust manifolds would be glowing cherry red. Kinda cool looking but not good for the motor.

Anything new and different about this new motor? the old one seemed to be pretty impressive?

Doug, when you get the timing right & jetting if needed?? You will be ok.
Get that engine on the road thats the best breakin after the camshaft.
hope the upgrades were worth the effort. Keep us informed. William

Fielding the tech questions at a cam company, I have heard this one more than a time or two. Cam timing retarded can cause it also.
