i have a question. when i took off my rocker arm shaft, i had to take off the feed and return tubes. now one has a lil thingy and one doesn't. T he thingy goes down the hole. what is the thingy and is it really neccasary?

yes it is gasket it goes on rear line it goes in a hole be hind the valve lifter cover the is a oil line about 1/2in the line is 1/4 in the thinke is a stopper

so one is supposed to have the stopper and one isn't?. the motor is a 223
year is 1964

sweet. thanx. thought i had lost somthing lol. now when i put the motor back together, what have you guys been doing about head bolts? can i reuse the factory ones?

I just put my head back on my 223, and re-used the stock bolts. I'm assuming that the stock bolts will hold up to the slight raise in C.R. that .020 shaved off the head will bring. I'll re-tighten them after a couple of hundred miles, but don't forsee any problems...

i had a 262 bored .080 stroked .030 it went 40k+ reusing the head bolts. a cylinder split pan filled with coolent then the rods went but the head gasket was still ok
