hi, i wrote earlier about overheating and low oil pressure. well i started with a brand new 2 row original equipment type radiator and a coolant recovery tank. that cured my overheating.
i then went ahead and got a new oil pump and rod bearings. this was quite a messy job. you wouldnt believe what was in the oil pan. some places the crud was 1/2" thick and hard like limestone. i think it had suffered from overheating and lack of oil changes. the crank looked good on all journals and checked out as standard.
i now have much better oil pressure. once the engine is hot is it hitting about 38psi at freeway speeds and idles about 18-19psi. i am not sure about the accuracey of my guage but it is sure improved from before.
since i was pulling 150psi on all 6 cylinders on a compression test i had decided not to mess with the pistons.
i plan to run it a while now and will upgrade the head to the hardened seats later. i did find out the replacement heads they sell at Autozone do come with hardened valve seats. Frankie
