Ok the crossflow lifters are the same as the US 289. I am looking on ebay and see roller lifters for the 289 for about triple the price. Will these work on the crossflow and if so is it worth the extra $$$? I will be using roller rockers already. Do they just drop in like regular lifters or is there more involved. I guess the most important question is "How many HP are they worth?"

i would also be interested to hear if anyone has fitted a roller cam/lifters to a 250 x-flow?

It won't work because the roller lifters come in pairs with a linkage between them so they can;t rotate. Obviously the roller wouldn't work too well if it was at 90 degrees to the face of the cam lobe.

This means the Ford Six would have to have the lifter bore same spacing in the block as the 289 windsor which I doubt to be the case.

I don't know of anyone who has ever done it for the simple reason that there is not much to be gained from doing it. Going to roller cams is mainly so that huge lift and duration can be used with high ramp rates. These sorts of cams are combined with engines running large ports and valves. The Ford six has comparitively piddly ports small valves to say a performance built Chev V8 head.

You can run more than 300 degrees total duration and up around 600 lift with a flat tappet cam

In a 1990 Street Machine magazine, reporter Tim Britten noted that Ray Spencer from Crow Australia was making billet cams for an American racer called JR from Texas. JR was plannig to campaign a 250 X-flow in an eccono stock drag racing catagory.

Roller cams were planned.

The Argentine guys have had them for some time. The modular distance of the ties is not a biggie. Buick V6's, V6 Chevies and the Cologne V6 run narrower valve spacings which may be pilfered. There is a bit of work making an early non cross flow fit them, but a later X-flow has a heap of room for ties if relieved gently with a die grinder.

All good stuff!

Ring Tighe Cams in Brisbane.
X-Flow roller lifters are Cleveland size. They can make the tie bars to suit the different lifter spacing. Can also make the cam from billet. Cam cost is about $600 aust. Only question is do you prefer solid or hydraulic?
