Roller tipped VS full roller rockers.

I've been burning up the pages in my new Falcon Performance Handbook and planning my new engine for the vert. I have what is probably a dumb question for you guys. What exactly is the difference between full roller rockers and roller tipped rockers? I've seen several posts talking about where you may want full rollers, but nothing that really describes how they differ from roller tipped. Nor could I find an explaination in the handbook.

I know of course that the roller tipped sets have their own rail, while the full rollers have to be assembled, but what makes them "Full Roller"?

Kris

"Full rollers" have a rollerized trunion where they pivot on the shaft as well as having a roller tip.

Kris, the full rockers have a 1.65 ratio, which means more lift. They have way less friction, but you have to use different oil through lifters with this setup.
If you are building an engine up i would go with the full rollers. If you have the engine already built i would use the 1.6 rollers rockers so you don't have to pull the head & change lifters. All you need is the rocker assembly & better pushrods for the adjustable rocker arms. William

William,

The engine will be a full build and replace. I've been toying with the idea of having a remanufacturer supply the shortblock, as they said that they could include a hot cam and a dual roller timing set as part of the package. I think though, that I'm going to try to find a rebuildable 200 shortblock for cheap so I can have better control of what goes into it.
I'll probably order a cam and timing set from Mike, and one of the new headers when they are available.

As far as the head, well, I thought that I had an OZ head lined up, but haven't heard lately from who I was getting it. So that may fall through. As an alternative, I guess I'll try to get a 77 or newer big log 250 head and do the recommended mods in the Falcon Performance Handbook. I wouldn't mind an argie head, but headers are an issue I gather. The full rollers sound cool, but I'm not sure if I need them as I'm looking at doing a reasonably mild cam 264/274 112* FSPP probably, and I'll try to keep the CR to right under 9 so that I can still burn regular unleaded. I'm going to attempt to port and polish the head myself and unshroud the valves, so maybe it's best to start with a US head incase I mess something up beyond repair.

At the same time as the engine is replaced, I'm planning a T5 swap, so I'm also doing the research into the the exact parts I'll need for that. Hard part is deciding which T5 to go with. There have been so many different ratios, and I have no idea what would be the best with the standard 3.20 rearend.

All in all I have my work cut out for me, and I'm sure I'll be asking a TON of advice before I'm through.

Keep after the guy about the 2V head. If you are doing a full build up, I think that is the way to go.

i just recently spoke with Phil about the 250-2V head, and i spoke with Mike about the possibilty of him importing Argie heads
with the intake, headers, and brand new head, the Argie would be barely more than the Oz head that would still need to be rebuilt

from the last info i have, it's still up in the air about whether or not Mike is gonna bring in the Argie heads, but if he does i'm gonna go with one over the Oz head, just makes more sense financially

If Mike DOES start carrying the argie heads I wonder if he'll offer a set of his headers redesigned to mount on it? I REALLY like the idea of those Hot Jet coated headers. Maybe even get the intake Hot Jet coated.

One thing I was wondering, what size valves do the argie heads have? I know that they are a new cast, but I'd want the large valves, and it would be a pain to rip out brand new valves and seats etc.. to have oversized ones put in.

i'm not completely sure what his plans are, but i know that if it wasn't one of his headers, he'd bring in something of equal quality, and most likely jet-hotted as well
i'm not even sure if he was gonna go with stocking them, or just a group buy of some sort

as for the valves, you'd prolly be best lookin up the thread

First, as for the differences in the roller tipped and full roller rockers. Both have a rolling tip where the rockers make contact with the valve. The full roller rockers have bearings at the rocker pivot point (the shaft) as well, where the roller tipped do not (bushing only). The link below may also help explain the differences.

I'm not sure if I'm going to import the Argie heads or not, considering other members are already in the process of doing so. The bottom line, I can't match their cost, it's that simple.

If I do decide to import them, I would have the intakes produced here in the USA, rather than in Argentina, which cost more than double. I would also have headers produced by either Pacemaker in OZ, or Pacesetter here in Phoenix, which also cost more. I could use a cheaper supplier for the headers, but perfer to use my current manufacturers, as I believe their quality to be superior and worth the extra dollars. I would also have the headers coated with Jet-hot Sterling2000 as I can get a nice discount when coating that many headers at once.

I may or may not decide to do some sort of group purchase, just depends on how much interest there is. If anyone is interested, send me an e-mail for more details. :)
