Scraping 3X1 Offy Project

Need some help. Due to some major health problems and a continuing series of problems over the past year trying to get an Offy 3X1 system running, I've decided to scrap the project. Since I've already done the 264/272 cam pkg and Dizzy II, I'd still like to have better carburation and performance. I've got a couple of spare round/small log heads that I can have milled for the larger valves and better compression. The one I was using when I started the 3X1 project and an NOS one that has never been built up and used. I'd need to go with as simplle a bolt on application as possible. I've priced out a Weber 32/36 at $249 and looked at the various adapter. First and foremost, is ths a reasonable idea and will it require hood mods, and which is currently the best and most simple adapter to use. Mike has his listed as out of stock, I have found one at Clifford, two at Summitt (not sure which to use on small log head), and one on the Weber site.

Buy your webber from Langdon's Stovebolt

http://www.stoveboltengineco.com/

They are ~$70.

For hood clearance issues your best bet is to get an adapter that mounts dirrectly to the manifold. The one at Langdon's mounts on the carb mount adapter already on the manifold and as such add extra heigth into the stack. The one that Mike sells and the one from clifford both elliminate the extra adapter and mount dirrectly to the manifold.

I worked around with the offy set up for a couple of years. When I put in my new motor I went instead with a 350 cfm Holley two barrel and an adapter that bolted right to the intake. Good hood clearance and probably one of the best mods I have done for over all runnability.
