Shift linkage

I am looking for linkage assembly for a 24” 3.03 from a 67-70 mustang behind a 200 engine. Any help appreciated. Thanks

'S OK. I C the 4 day ol doubbbble post. One of several volunteer admins will soon clean it up (or U can remove 1).

I'm thinkin if U add a lill more detail some 1 can help. The links are in several places (I'll call them 'upper"n 'lower').
Can you start w/"the problem" and we can C if 'the committee' can help?

I have a RAN 3.03 but no linkage. It’s a typical 24” long tranny with the shifter assembly bolting to the very end of the tail shaft housing. The distances from the shift shafts to the shift assembly are about 15” and 19”. I think the parts I need are C6ZA-7326-B, 7328-B. They should work for 66-70 200 mustang with 3.03 tranny.

will U use on the column or on the floor?
No bushings needed then? just the 2 rods?
None of those lill plates needed? It's not bare now?
Try the wanted (4sale) forum?
(here is certainly 'more active' but that is very specific & 'folks w/stuff' scann there all the time).

I’ve never seen a classic mustang with column shift. That would be one of a kind. Thanks for the link. Probably lots of scammers there.

Except it’s upside down, right? All the pictures I’ve seen show the rods on top. Are the levers the same for all the three speeds? 2.77 and 3.03? Thanks

Yes the rods are always at the top for any floor type shifter otherwise the gears would be shifting backwards. No the 2.77 shifter rods and the Trans shifter arm parts wouldn't be the same as those used on a 3.03. I don't know if the shifter unit might use some of the same parts as the one used on a 2.77 but it's doubtful you could use without some work since it has a different mounting bracket on the 3.03. I do have a good picture of what the 1964 1/2 to 1966 Mustang 2.77 Trans looks like that I had until recently, with its factory shifter installed on it, if you want me to post those for you.

I have a 2.77 so I know the rods are too long for the 3.03. Wasn’t sure about the shift shaft levers. The shift lever assembly stays the same. I don’t know why it’s so hard to find the proper linkage. I think there should be thousands of them out there. I also don’t know why aftermarket doesn’t make parts for the 3.03. The 4 speed Toploader parts are available from every mustang store.

Bubba, I’m reassembling the 3.03. The 25 needle bearings the kit came with for each end of the countershaft don’t fit. Only 24 fit. It’s a Drake kit. Is that the problem? Also the tail housing bushing doesn’t fit. Thanks for the help.

Hi Dustyford, Yes you would need to have the correct number of roller bearings to fit in with the counter shaft do you think they gave you the right parts kit? Do you remember how many roller were in your trans when you took it apart? They might of given a couple extra in case you lost them. The new rollers are sometimes harder to fit in it might be as simple as a little to much grease being used to hold them in place. The tail housing bushing will need to be pressed into place so unless you have your own press you will need get that down at a local trans or machine shop. Best of luck

There were 50 in the tranny and 50 in the kit. I tried an original for the final bearing and it fit but too tight for the shaft and bearings to turn. The bushing sticks out past the mating surface 1/4” and it’s too small for the slip yoke.

This sounds like maybe some wrong parts at least on the tail housing bushing. Probably best if you contact your supplier and get them to send you the right bushing and bearings. Do you have a micrometer that you could check the diameter of the old roller against the new ones? i wonder if they gave you parts for a 2.77 or other early transmission?

Though not ideal in a pinch if your old roller bearings still looked good without out a lot of wear you could probably reuse them they don’t usually wear as much as the other bearings.
