side drafts on a log?

I've seen 2 or 3 su's on a log, and 4 or 6 kiehin bike carbs on a log. What's the best setup without cutting off the log? How much carb is too much for a hot street motor (6 carbs seems excessive)? What is the best way to execute this mod?

Talk to MustangSix about this one. I believe he had 6 Kawasaki carbs at one time, or something similar.

Six Mikunis, but not on a log, though. That was a version of the crossflow hybrid.

I think a pair of H6 SU's, maybe even H8's would be a decent set of carbs.

I think the SU's would be a good choice. As long as they are in good shape, they are about as trouble free as it gets.

Apparently he never got them running right

The throttle shafts wear out real easy and very sensitive to vacuum leaks, which the throttle shafts were a huge contributor. Somebody used to repair them by machining nylon bushing that were easily replaced. I ran them on my 72 & 73 Triumph GT6 and a 73 TR6 and my dad had them on his XKE.

Did I mention that they were sensitive to vacuum leaks?!

I used to run that Spitfire up your way while stationed at Travis AFB in the late 80s. Wonder if you ever saw it around. Took it to the city a lot. One of my favorite rides was carving my way down to Stenson Beach.
I also used to own a 63 Ranchero while in the early 90s with hair-on black and white cowhide interior. Have you ever seen that one around?

Yes he did get them to run well. I made the mistake of buying the tape from Ztherapy. It has some errors. The float setting was the most difficult part of the process. They are on a 280Z that my son drives.

hey Jack did u ever get the 6 carbs tuned right and running or no

The Mikunis ran like a scalded cat with great throttle response. The Crossflow head really likes the IR setup, but I had a difficult time getting the idle consistent. Too many linkages, springs, and screws to deal with.

I built a manifold that uses dual Stromberg 175s and that runs well, but I currently have it off and am fabricating something to use multiple Carter YF's. Here's a short clipfrom an early test of the Strombergs.

I might have seen the cowhide Ranchero; I had a '69 Ranchero at the time and vaguely remember something different and real cool other than a VW rabbit with fake cowhide seatcovers. In the 80's I was still in Napa Valley, so I missed your Spitfire. I would have noticed because in the NV during the '80s everyone had Cameros and mullets. But ya, during the late 70s & early 80's was the heyday for my GT6. I used to terriorize the backroads of Lake Berryessa in a dual carb inline 6! Used to live in Vacaville too not far from Travis AFB, but man! we got more crime there than in the City.
You can't beat the back roads leading to CA coast! Folks rav about Hwy 1, but it's the roads leading in & out that are the best. I commute to work about an hour north of the city and quite often head out to Stinson on my K1200 GT bike.
LaGrasta, it appears that you're the second member where we've gone to different high schools together.

I'm a fan of the webers. 45's get them jetted in right and a fuel regulator my theory is one barrel to cylinder is the most efficient.
