Simple muffler decsion

So I'm finally going to get a muffler, she's just a 200, auto family car, so not looking for loud.

Can I just go to any muffler shop and get a stock $100 muffler, or should I look for something a little more special?

Sure a stock muff would be okay and low cost if all the rest exhaust is in good shape. Other than stock a glass pack or a turbo muff would be good pick, still be quiet, and may be a lower cost too.

Try Bender's Custom Muffler on South 89th just east of Santa Fe. It's on the south side of the road. Ask for a turbo tube muffler. It looks like a glasspack on the outside, but has the baffles & chambers like a regular turbo muffler on the inside. It has a very quiet sound, but if you have your windows down you can tell it's not stock. I had one put on my 1981 Mustang coupe with a single exhaust 200 6 cyl. It is not loud at all.

Thanks, I'll look into it.

The stock 200 with manifold, can't make that nice deep V8 thoaty sound like I see on you tube can it?

Not sure I want it in a family car either. Not that we drive far, but a drone does get old fast.

I used a 1969 Ranchero 250 exhaust manifold and it's factory 2" headpipe to replace the '81 Mustang manifold that had the pre-cat in it. Bender's put a 2" IN/OUT turbo tube muffler and 2" tail pipe to the back driver side of the car behind the rear tire. It did not have a drone or a deep throaty rumble, but a nice muffled burble. Look up Jones turbo tube on Fleabay. Externally, it looks like a glasspack, but is much quieter. It is not one of those chambered/crimped exhaust tubes like some of the factory 'Vette mufflers of the 70's.

I took Cobra Six's and other member's advice on the generic turbo style mufflers and couldn't be happier. Thanks btw.

Great sound! Better price! I think I paid about $20 each for the Thrush Turbos.

My car does have a bit of a deep throaty sound.
