Single Barrel Stromberg Tuning

I want to get a little more out of my Stromberg single barrel, its the original 46 year old carb, it works fine and has so far powered me to a 12.025 over the eighth mile, i am knocking on 11’s and the carby could get a tune of sorts, till now its untouched.
Future calls for changes but i am a way off yet and still deciding combinations. I have a race series meeting in tow weeks and every meeting i go to the car and my mods goes a little quicker. Holden HQ series uses this carby only for its Australia wide series but its all secret squirrel stuff. Wanting to know whether changing jets and getting the mixture right etc will make the difference i am after. I have heard of guys changing emulsion tubes etc. I think i have some gains just in renewing the linkage and taking up the slack etc. Making it work optimally etc. Carby doesn’t leak, gee i dont even have a fuel filter.

For sure freshen and tighten up all the linkage settings also check the carb with someone holding the pedal down to the floor to verify that the carb is opening the throttle all the way can't tell you how many times I found linkages needing lots of adjustment. Jet size of one two sizes on a near stock motor might help have you done any plug readings at the track to know where you at now? You might also verify that your fuel pump is putting out a good supply volume and maybe use a larger fuel line from the tank like 3/8 then you also set up for your next step in a higher horsepower build too. Good luck

plugs read nice last time out, i carry a second set in my tool box, used ones to compare, i thought i fouled the last set, so brought new ones when i had the DUI installed and did the gap, i’ll definitely check the full throttle. i run dual return springs with racing etc, never changed the jets, it fuelled up on me on Saturday and coughed and spluttered, need to do a fuel filter.

going to dyno tune mine on Thursday, my tuner mate was saying, jetting it up can rob power, he is a carby specialist, years ago we had a big debate on carby size, bloke had a real warm 351 stroker with a 850 double on it, he said thats to bloody big, we will make more power with a 650 double, so swapped over the shop carb and yep she made more power with the smaller carb and torque. Post up some numbers, going to play with the linkages and make sure its all good, optimise the timing. Honest dyno this wont, not fudged up.
