Hi All
I have just found this site and has inspired me to turbo my 250 non xflow 6 I have a V8 that I bought to replace the 250 but am going to get rid of it and stick with the 250
I live in NZ and have an Australian XA station wagon Ive spent plenty of coin on it She looks tidy but it farly sad in the go department As it stands It runs a fully rebuilt 250 new rings pistons bearings oil pump reground crank and cam I think its what you guys call an I6 with the cast log and single barrel Stromberg carby It has a 5 speed manual Borg Warner and a 3.7 diff ratio I have no idea what the compression ratio is as the head has been surfaced but I am running a stock type piston The wagon probably weighs around 1600 kilograms.
I have access to a 2v head that has been ported and H/duty valve springs added for around $500 nz and also have a spare single barrell head and a 2nd hand 350 holley What I want to know is given the above info what turbo/carby/head would you use Doesnt have to be from the above list but I have those parts Have thought about using a draw through 1 3/4 SU carb setup for ease of tuning but dont know if the blow through is more successful Every suggestion welcome.....Thanks

Welcome to the club. Right now there are quite a few projects starting so you shouldnt have aproblem finding help, Good luck!

Welcome XA 250. Do a search for Does 10's. He has a 12 second US 1963 Falcon 2-door, sort of an XM Falcon without the T-bird roofline.

It runs a totally stock US 250 engine, similar to the XA 250. His ride runs just one 7448 series 350 cfm Holley carb and a TO4, and a C4 AND 9" which started off with 4.56's, then 3.9's, now 3.55:1's. There are a few secretes in the Ford Six Cylinder Performance Parts cam, and also the later direct mount adaptor plate Will uses on his late 70's cylinder head, but thats about it.

Check out Linc 200, who has a little 3.3 1982 Mustang, still on its 1-bbl Holley, but puffed to the smitereens with boost. Then read all about MRJLB84D , Dave's green XA Futura with 16 inch Simmonds mags and a paint job you can dive into, as seen in StreetMachine's Readers Rides a year ago. He's doing a turbo X-flow.

There are other people who have helped fuel the fire, but I can't mention 5000 plus memebers worldwide (from Russia,Finland, Iceland, England, Ireland to Argentina) and give them equal credit!

Mate, the worlds getting into Turbo I6 Inter Contential Ballistic Missles!

Thanks Guys
Theres such an array of cheap turbos available here where do I find what all the different specs mean eg 60/1 a/r ratio .58 what does this all mean and what suits the 250

If we had access to all the head options you Aussie's do, you wouldn't see a log head on a performance build period.

I am stepping up to the turbo challenge as well, and IMO you would be money ahead to go with the 2V.

You really need to spend some time going thru old posts. These guy's have been at this for some time. I think I read every thread in the turbo section! There are a lot of points of view that are varied, some from speculation, some hard mathematics, some from experience.

Ultimately it depends on your ability, imagination, and what your expectations are. Think about your real world driving and plan accordingly.

Thanks Howard I wouldnt be going for the log head either but Ive spent the money and had the bottom end rebuilt thinking I could swap to the later model head But nooo the water galleries are different so im told .....
Ive had a pretty good read of others turbo posts and now have a better handle on it . I wanted to purchase a second hand turbo as we have a lot of turbo jap imports here in NZ (Mazda,s Mitsubishi,s Subaru,s etc ) but am trying to decifer wha all the numbers mean Ill probably go for the 2V head and will buy a manifold as it doesnt have one Ill keep researching on the turbo,s

Gravelrash
Im very pleased that the XA has more engine bay room I think its the largest of all the falcons I need to learn about the boost referenced fuel pump and the mods to do to the 350 holley
Thanks for the advice
Shaun

i havent seen skin on my knuckles for a couple of months now, yeah theres not much room in an early bird.
i also have an xl sedan delivary van that is getting a 302 with a blow through turbo, even less room.

i am after a set of timing gears if anyone know of any for sale. Diecrest Engineering sell here in Australia want a left testical for them. I found Cloyes also have them but the web site doesnt say if they are for 144-250 or the 240-300 engines. hopefully someone on here might be able to tell me

Timing gears? For a 200 or later? Rollmaster do a set, I think (or maybe JP) for the 188-250 series normally fitted with the 52-link timing set. Don't know how many idlers.

That's pretty much where the ones I was thinking of, come in.

I had a dig. Streetmaster, by Rollmaster. $338.42 at Rare Spares.
