Slow to crank after sitting a week

Hi,

I have a 1961 Comet with a manual 3 speed, 144, one barrel Holley with auto choke. If I crank the car a few days after running it it starts right up. But if I wait a week or longer it takes five or six tries before cranking. I changed or rebuilt just about everything except the engine. Maybe it's a carb, fuel pump, or ignition problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Pete

I have a '61 Falcon with the 144/ Holley carb, too. It seems that the carb either drains down, or the fuel evaporates out of the float bowl. I just let crank a long time untill it refills the carb & it then fires right off. I have just accepted that this is the nature of the beast after sitting for lengthy periods of time.......
If this is unacceptable, install an electric fuel pump & have it fill the carb before cranking.
