Solid or Hydraulic Cam in 144

I have what I think is a 1962 144 CI six in my ranchero. The engine sounds like it has solid lifters. Did these motors come with solid lifters?
Is there a good source on the net to identify my motor via numbers on it?
How can I tell if the motor came in my ranchero orginally?

Solid lifters in 144s and 170s, and then the 200 came with 7 main bearings and hydraulic lifters. =) If you're not into keepin' that 'chero stock, I'd highly suggest puttin' a 200 in there. It's what I was gonna do with mine before it got towed away. I really miss that car. =(

Well we made a deal and he ended up having to give me his '86 F150. Thennnnnn... I felt bad for takin' his truck, and then it burned down. This guy has really bad luck. Love him like a brother though.

On the block above the oil pan Starter side the should be a searys of numbers something like C2VE Check on your intake as well to the front of the intake is the fireing order on the back (behind the carb) should be the head numbers.. All I can tell ya is that in the number I put above the C= the decade 1960 the number 2 = the specific year... thats all I know..
it goes like this
C=60
D=70
E=80
followed by the specific year in that decade..
hope this helps..
and as has been mentioned solides were the norm..

It's been gone for awhile, not on the top of my list. I miss it, but I was going to give it to a buddy who needed a smaller vehicle anyways... =)
