source for shortblocks?

I am reaching out to those in the know. I think my son cooked his 200. She's banging up front (rod?) and oil is blowing back through the dipstick and filler cap, down onto a perfectly detailed motor/engine compartment. I am not knowledgeable enough to start a rebuild myself. Is there a source for rebuilt inlines out there? I would only need a shortblock since I have replaced a ton of the bolt-ons. I like the six and don't want to move up to an eight....................

Most of the major autoparts stores can get you a rebuilt engine. You may need to ask for a later engine for a Fairmont, but it will fit the early Mustang.

Don't overlook ebay. SUre, you have to be careful, but I got a documented rebuilt engine with 5k miles on it for $50. Heck, even if I only get 50k miles out of the engine, for $50, can't beat it. THere are a lot of mustangers pulling out the 200 in favor of V-8s, so you can usually pick them up for a song.

Thanks for the 6-cylinder long block advice. I've already printed out data from both the websites suggested. It's a great start, Thanks! Nothing on E-Bay today. I'll check again. I'll be working out of the house the next few days. During that time I intend to call around to the local parts outlets. Thanks for that advice as well. I just assumed they would be narrow-minded with only V-8 options.

Look in the parts section of the forum. Lots of people selling 6's there occasionally too.

I wouldn't have kept the 6 if it wasn't for this place (not sure if that's good or bad) but if you ever have a question, you'll be hard pressed to find a more knowledgable and helpful base. Its large enough to get lots of experience, but small enough that you'll get to know everyone eventually.
