Interesting . Is it both or one or the other? I have never heard of one pump doing both but makes sense

Yes the fuel pump also made vacuum for the wipers. For my use with a 250 have to see if 170/200 used the same fuel pump and I would be good because my Bronco has vac wipers.

Also early AMC vehicles, Carter mechanical fuel pump + vacuum for wipers. The vacuum system is similar to the fuel system: intake vacuum is routed to the pump "in", then vacuum "out" to the wiper motor. Vacuum diaphragm is on top, fuel on bottom. 3/8" inner dia line, wipers move a fairly high volume of air.

That’s the makes sense part . Seems like l remember some wipers working better than others, fuel pump vacuum would be way more consistent
