Martin,

What is the size of the valve stems for the SP? Can I use V8 valves?

DB

im interested in bringing a 221sp head to australia, can anyone help me.
is there any aussie 221sp owners on these forums already??

No, but there is a red 1974 Argie Falcon which is linked to this thread..somewhere. Can you legally do a number plate search to find the legal owner?

I can see Aussies going ga-ga over South American Fords already! They are strong, simple, and a nice trim, taut and terrific size. How else do you get six hombres around...get a bench seated Argentine Falcon mate!

Hi Gravelrash,

Martin(Southern Cross Racer) can take care of that for you. He checks in daily so I'm sure you'll get an answer soon.

DB

No, you Aussies were the first, mate. The biggest theTaunus SP4 and SP5's got was 2.3 Lima OHC fours, the base engine in the Argie Falcon. They used German Taunus bodies with the earlier Taunus TC roof line. Your TC/TD/TE/TF's just missed getting a 2-dr, Ford Oz was going to use the Pinto tailgate on an Argentine Taunus platform, but they caved into the beanies and gave us the TE 4-dr instead. The South Africans got 2.5 Zephyr / 3 liter Essex Capri V6's in theres, but no-ne else had the balls to fit a factory 250 in-line into a Cortina.

The low deck 188/221 engine is about 100 pounds lighter, and doesn't need a big cut in the front and rear hood bulkheads. They look awesome, don't they?

I was looking at shoving one of those little short block sixes in my Cortina. But I've got other, weirder ideas now...

Hi there,

DB,
I will try to get you the exact numbers. My caliper is not accurate enough :(

Gravelrash,

Im currently in the process of shipping an ME head for a fellow member, and I will also check about shipping prices to Australia if you want.

XECUTE,
I love the Taunus coupe. Good handling, nice clean lines, and good front end. My mechanic buddy wants to buy one as his personal car, and install a 221 ME with some goodies. It's not a big deal to fit it into the engine bay, but we have our doubts about how the stock 5 speed box will handle the increased torque,
I like the contrast between the Aussie and the Argie Falcons. While they keep developing and improving the car in Australia over the years, we basically remained with the same body, with only some trim and driveline mods. Maybe because of the costs, but you also have to consider that local Falcon owners/buyers were, at least for the most part, very conservative people.
Martín.

My experience with the V8 valves was they are taller by not much (than a six). Sleeving to the OD is no problem, but you have to resolve the height difference. Raise the rockers and shim the springs is one way, using longer valves still and recutting the lock grooves is another. With full roller rockers, raising the rockers may not be so necessary. It will depend on your geometry.

Best option is custom made (for length) valves as big - and in correct proportion - as they can fit.

Adam.

Did they ever export the Taunus to Mexico?

If they did, I might be able to get one. I've got a trucker buddy that runs the length of Mexico.
Love the lines of that car. Reminds me of a Jensen Intersepter Mark III.

John

Dunno for sure. i know that Ford Argentina exported a few Falcons to Cuba, but never heard of Mexico. Those are not really expensive around here, but its kinda hard to find one in good condition... Martín.
