Stalling after restart - Vapour Lock ??

Hi all
went out for a good run today.
Weather was warm (about 21C (about 72F -ish))
Stopped by the side of the road for 5-10 mins.
Restarted and drove off, car stalled pretty much immediately.
Started again after cranking for about 5 seconds.
It did this again when I stopped for about 15 mins later in the day (this time temp was maybe only 65F)
This time it started ok, ran ok while I drove about 50 yards to the main road , then gave it a bit of gas to get going on main road and stalled again! .. again cranked for a few seconds and it started and was ok again after a slightly hesitant pull-away.

Is this the dreaded vapour lock?
runs fine apart from that.

Cheers!

Sure could be, if you have the spring clip type clothes pin over there you could try putting some on your fuel going to carb, or you could slid some rubber fuel line over the steel one to see if it will isolate from heat it enough. If it helps than you know it was probally vapor lock.Good luck

thanks bubba ..
sorry am being thick .. understand putting rubber pipe over the metal pipe .. not sure what you mean about what to do with the springy clothes peg ..?
Cheers!

Right you can slice the rubber hose and sipe tie it on to give it some insulation. Though wood is not the best conductor if you put enough of the close pins (you just clip on to the line) on about 1 to 2 inches apart on the highest section of line. they will act like a cooling fin ie kind of same as a radiator. Some stock steel lines on the sixes run quite close to front of head and exhaust manafold the radiated heat can be absorbed into the fuel line especially the during summer heat season and it will not disapate as fast. There are a number of other ways too if it's from vapor lock

hmm.. put good thick pipe around petrol feed from thermostat right up to carb and it did the same again today .. stalling after restart .. ok after a bit of cranking although the hot idle feels a bit rough .. it's no big issue as it restarts and is ok after that..
Just wonder if it could be anything else carb related ... ? hmm . :?:

I would first check your fuel filter and then check your fuel pump.

Both new 2 weeks ago .. they give good pressure .. although prob has started only after the new pump was fitted .. perhaps the design is taking too much heat and heating the petrol inside too much ..??

Probably not Vapor Lock than. Next time it stalls pull out the plugs and see if they are wet.

I had the same problem, hard start, stalling when hot, ethinol boils at low temperatures and will cause the bowl to empty, I installed an electric fuel pump and when hot I turn the key on, wait a few seconds and she fires right up and no stalling.
