Starter Chewing Ring Gears...

Robert funny you mentionedd welding it back up... my cousin took it and welded it close then added 1/4 flat stock to the front. looks really robust, ugly but usable. :D

last night I wanted it together, so we went and checked it all, the gear had room and engaged IMO perfect, not like the zoo starter where the gear it too big for it's own good. started it a few times then took it back out and looked at the ring gear and starter, all looked great and I could not tell where it engaged  Sadly I forget pictures as we were working, we just kept going, no breaks and finished around midnight. the car starter noise sounds JUST like my dads 97 grand marqui and my moms 07 mercury, FORD. before I swore I was grinding teeth (turns out that feelin was right)

I also found another danger, my center link nut almost came off!!! even through the coder pin. well I found my old one and installed it, now my road wonder is gone!!! little memory but not as before, I bet some grease will fix that.

I'm running a yellow speedo gear, forgot how many teeth, but it's 15mph too fast @ 70gps speed, (85-90 last night was 'slow') so I think I need 3 more teeth. well how many is on the yellow speedo cable gear? I'll be looking but if someone knows I'd appreciate.

alll in all I like the new gearing, I have a 1st gear!!! but still think a 3.55 posi for the 8 inch would be perfect for the car. hopefully I'll fix the speedo problem soon and get some MPG readings...

Congrats Richard!
Here's to getting to enjoy all that work you've been putting into it for many miles

A trac loc with 3.55 or some such would be sweet!! 8) I don't know how used parts availability is in Arizona, but when the time comes, you can probably find a 70-72'ish Mav/Comet 8" with four lugs...you might keep an eye out via the Mav/Comet forum Rick/rwbrooks linked here at FSP before http://mmb.maverick.to/
I got one through a member there, good forum and good for us ford folks to stick together  Look forward to hearing your MPG and just plain old seat of the pants results :vert :checks:

I already got an 8 inch 4 lug, it has 2.79 gears ATM and probably open end, but need the shock/spring plates and probably new u-bolts (didn't get them with axel)

I'm very glad it's back on the road, I didn't rush anything last night so I'm sure it's going to work very well for a nice long time. heres one for all that has helped me make sence of what to do,        , in the end this is my daily driver and I really needed this back on the road. I'm broke as hell and school has already started back up. it's been stressfull as I've been try'n to make ends meet with no car. lol... well it's an experience that I don't want to repeat. I am looking for a new clutch fork, and I do have a ram clutch setup on it's way. I figure if anything goes, I'll be ready that day and those are the only things that I can picture as a "weak link" in the drive train (not including the leaking 7 inch rear end).

thanks I hope it will be a long enough time for the wallet to recover... lol (on the brighter side I'm helping the economy by going on a shopping spree...)
