starter stuff...`

so my 200 is having issues starting...it will turn over a few times then sounds like the engine is not turning...it runs fine, and 50% of the time i can start it, but the other 50% it wont...i believe this is due to my starter going bad, and was wondering if when i am replacing it, there is anything i should look for or be careful about...also are there a lot of starters i could use from a yard, or should i just spring for a new one.....keep in mind i am trying to save for other upgrades....
thanks

when it sounds like the engine is not turning, do you just hear the starter wind up by itself, or does it not even do that? if thats what it does, then there are 2 options, the first of which is that the starter's gear fails to move to where it contacts the ringgear (the flywheel's gear). the other option is that the ringgear has a few broken teeth, which are causing the starter to wind up but not move it.
i had one that worked fine above 40* but only half the time below that temp, and it was the starter's gear that wouldn't always move.

or if your problem is that the starter won't even spin up, then you should check your solenoid and cables. if you still have factory cables, its probably time you replace them, as theyre probably corroded inside - i had one break off at the starter without breaking its insulation, took me about 10 minutes to figure out. don't laugh too hard, but i got it home using a knife and a screwdriver to strip the wire end and borrow a hose clamp to clamp the wire i just stripped to its terminal that was still on the starter - then i drove like that for a week.

hope that helps something

yeah i replaced the starter today and its runs like a champ...but i am kinda worried about a clicking that comes and goes....

Did you also check the solenoid and cables (such as your ground from the battery), as was suggested earlier? And where exactly is the clicking sound coming from? The starter itself?

yes check you battery cable conections..... Most of the time (not all the time) a clicking when trying to start the it is bad battery conections.....
NOW the battery cables might look good but they can carbon up between the battery post and the cable so you don't realy see it.... pull the cables off and clean them with the wire battery post cleaner both pieces (the post and the cable) should be shiny.

my cables are all connected and clean and it starts fine after the new starter...thanks for the help....but my new problem is, as i said, there is a clicking noise that follows the rpms of the engine...meaning, i rev the engine and the clicking increases in frequency, it is not when it is starting, rather when it is idling or cold or running when it is doing this....i am at a complete loss and...i am worried it may be a lazy lifter or something like that...any suggestions?
Thanks a bunch

You may have eather a lose rocker arm, or an exhaust leak.. they almost sound the same.....
Take a hose and put one end to your ear and then other end, move across the valve cover and see if you can hear a lose rocker. and hold it around the exhaust manifold and see it you can hear it there...
