is there a shorter starter or after market starter that will fit a 170? I dont seem to have enough room to get the starter in after i put new headers on from clifford. I had to remove the starter because the power bolt was hitting the headers during instalation.

I'm not a header guy, but don't you have to put the starter in first?
I know guys have to remove their headers to replace the starter.
Which is one of the reasons I'm not a header guy.

Mine were the same way. I had to put a little ding in the header tube where it made contact with the starter connection. Got about a 1/4" clearance now. My headers are Clifford's also. Don't know if other brands fit the same way.

this is why the headers that Mike has were engineered in the first place. To my knowledge, every aftermarket header had some issue with starter or suspension interference.

You can get a mini starter from Mike as FSPP, junk the Clifford headers and get a set also from Mike and you will not have the starter issue anymore.

Starter clearance is not a problem with the Pacemaker or FSPP headers. And in most cases, you don't need to pull the header to replace the starter. I thought Clifford corrected this problem with their headers a couple years ago, but guess not. :?

Here's pics of the Pacemakers.

with my pace makers i just barely cant clear to get the starter out but it is no problem for my to just unbolt the header som and slide it back a little to make clearence

gentle man thanks for the info. I'm going to try to trim 1/4 inch off the stater cable bolt and see if that works. if not i'll try the pipe denting. I'll let you know if it works.

I have the original style FSPP header and I can manuever the starter in and out on my 1968 200ci. Just put a towel on the header if you don't want to bang it up during removal and installation.

Yeah, I have the pacemakers and have no issues with either style starter (I've had both). I just cover the starter with a rag to avoid dinging the headers. Is it tight? yes, but still moveable.
