I eased, not solved, the problem by replacing the split style lock washers with star washers, a thinner nut, and trimming as much excess off the stud as possible. I still have only about .030" clearance. Another thing you could do is glue two header gaskets together for a little more clearance.
that photo looks all too familiar. . . I have to remove the header to change my starter- I looked and looked for a different starter but found nothing.
What starter is supposed to go on the 1965 200 manuel? Anyone know? I would REALLY appreciate it (having a lot of trouble finding the right one...) it is a 3 bolt pattern and I have a non synchro 2.77 tranny
tasman- maybe you could tell us all what part # it is? This question comes up every six months or so - it would be great to have a solution for everybody.
