Starting over, need new block

I have the 2V head, fully rebuilt and ready to bolt on.

However, I have noticed that the rebuild job on the engine was sub-par, anyone have any ideas if it is best to try and rebuild the block again or start over with another block?

New block is of course a relative term, I am looking into a block if possible that is low mileage(fat chance, I know) and in good condition, anyone got one they wish to part with?

Thanks again guys.

If you're suggesting an OZ 250 block Addo, then you have peaked my interest  . Got any leads on one?
Christopher Harris

No, unfortunately. Try contacting LeroyPol of these forums. He has a spare Oz 221 longblock. 10% more cubes, no extra weight (about 14 pounds extra).

So what parts crossover from the U.S. 200/250 blocks to the 221?

i.e. distributor, cam, lifters, crank, etc. etc. etc.

I don't want a whole new headache befalling me.

Hey Chris, I have one sitting in my garage.

I was planing to drop it into my 66 coupe, but its going to be a while before I get around to it ($$$). I can always order another one later on, when I'm ready.

Well if you want a new block go for it. It is kinda hard to tell from your post exactly what the problem might be though, what exactly is sub par about the rebuild? and what makes the block suspect?

Mike you have a 221 block! :D

Again my question from before, what parts if any will swap from U.S. to Oz blocks?

 I'll try for a plain English version:

Yes: Head, cam, rod bearings, head gasket, front and rear main seals, rocker arms, valve stem seals, valve springs, DS-II (except not to crossflows), carb, exhaust, thermo housing, water pump, pistons/rings, balancer (not 250/crossflow, though), rod bearings, head (and many other) bolts, flywheel, engine mounts.

No: Block, bell, oil pan, oil pump assy (feasible to swap), timing cover, main bearings (maybe they do?), rods, crank, pushrods, timing set, cam bearings, temp sender (some heads), oil pan & timing cover gaskets, timing set, fuel pump, valves. [Edit] Also block plate and dust cover.

So am I running into a headache if I can acquire an Oz block for my 2V head, particularly the 221 block?

Chris, I have a 250 OZ block.

So am I running into a headache if I can acquire an Oz block for my 2V head

Not really. The OZ 250 head was designed for it. :D

Most of the parts you need are already in the block as it sits. Block, bell (I have six bells coming over, just not sure what they are), oil pan, oil pump assy (will not interchange), timing cover, main bearings, rods, crank, pushrods, timing set, cam bearings, gaskets, fuel pump, block plate and dust cover. Balancer will not interchage either from what I understand.

All of the smaller parts, that may need changing now or down the road, can be easily obtained and air freighted at a reasonable cost as they are light weight parts (oil pump, main bearings, pushrods, timing set, cam bearings, gaskets, fuel pump, block plate and dust cover).

But that's just my opinion. Nothing an Aspirin won't cure.

The part I like is that the OZ 250 block is about 1" narrower than the US 250 (will fit better than a US 250) :)

Shipping the block to you is no big deal, as I'm down there in the LA area every couple of months and could bring it down with me.

From what I was told, this block was recently rebuilt, but you would need to verify just to play it safe.

Sounds good Mike.
I'll email you with further details.
